to call today Black Friday.
To me, having just finished work it is Chimera, Pyrotechnic, Fan-effing-tastic Effriday TFICPF Friday). That’s what it is.
Well, two whole weeks of cuddles with my girls, some slightly frantic shopping, commando-style (in-out, minimum time on the ground, maximum damage; a sort of Tesco Two Zero) and a glass of something before bed. Medicinal only. Of course.
And watching some rugby. Oh, yes. Haven’t had much time for the old egg-chasing as of late what with Sky having stolen a whole generation of kids away from the Glorious Game. I do fear for the sport when only youngsters from affluent homes can watch rugby. At least in Wales we have Scrum Vee and Shannel Pedwar Ec but those poor wee lads and lasses in Scotland, Ireland and England don’t get to see bugger all most of the time. Mind you, of that list, the first and last countries boast only posh boys playing it anyway. For the most part. Don’t know that much about grassroots rugby in Ireland. Does anyone out there know and could inform me? I think it is, even there, quite a ‘well-off’ sport: public schools, perhaps? Not sure.
You see, now that the little one, oh Light of my Life - Ruby, is here, I am no longer minded to go the Albany for beers and SS1, 2 or 3 Guinness rugby or HC. And our Skybox has for a long time now been Freeview only as it was just too expensive.
All-in-all, then, I am missing a bit of Elegant Violence. Even parks rugby has been lost to me because of the weather. Not that Old Howardians 2nds v Civil Service Ones has been that good in recent seasons. Not since that aggressive old begger at 10 left. He was class, a real One-run-Willy. Superb, grey-haired, mouthy git.
The rugby I am looking forward to is going to the Arms Park on the 26th to see the Hairsprays clattering into the Blues. I am going to be making a bucket collection for the MND association. What they will do with all those collected buckets I don't know, but, hey, its a free ticket for the game.. I only hope that the Blues don’t have to contact the old git from Roath rec to ring for them at fly-half…
Right, off to stare lovingly at my daughter and The Wife over a small single malt.
More nonsense to follow soon, now the holidays are here. Hurrah!

Irish rugby; take a trip to Limerick. This is the rugby capital of Ireland and judging by the number of tickets those b%^&*$s get hold of for the Heineken final, irrespective of whose in it, arguably Europe. Sporting pecking order (a) hurling (b) rugby (c) football, not soccer (d) the rest. Schools play gaa and rugby and when they're not they play rugby and gaa. The girls play rugby and gaa, the leprechauns play rugby and gaa, so what is Limerick missing to gain world dominance? Real ale.
wilbach thanks nagshead and is now inclined to take a trip to limerick. taking his family with him, of course, dear, if you are checking this...
