Lost Days at the Paperface

facebook - what's it all about, frankie?Funny time of year this.

I needed one of these babies over the last month. oh yeeees. And this year is odder than usual. For a start my ‘holiday’ started a month early with this shoulder reconstruction. So that’s been unusual, for a start – sling, immobilised arm. Left-handed bum-wiping, learning to brush my teeth contra-handed etc etc.

We then have had the ever-growing baby-bump which is bringing the realisation of the Most Important Change ever-closer. I didn’t believe I could love The Wife any more than I did but, blow me, if I don't find just a little bit more every day. Awww.

Then we have the totally unexpected 10 o’clock at night phone call from my boss telling me my job will be quite, quite different next term. Unusual interpretation of professionalism that, but there you go. So there is that to add to the oddness.

The Harry Potter book out which means a return to all day-ers on the read (almost as disorientating, anti-social and confusing as an All Day-er on The Pop)

The discovery of Facebook resulting in lost days at the computer (what is it all about, really, eh?!)

You combine that with all the phoney war of a devalued tri-nations coupled with 2nd or 3rd string down-under tours by the ‘home’ nations and it all goes to produce a rather heady and bizarre state of play. Or mind.

On reflection, though, I rather like the surreal quality of it all: I don’t miss the stress of work but do miss the interactions; I don’t miss the odd lost day but do begrudge having to play catch-up on my self appointed tasks (and the Other kind, too, I suppose…); I don’t miss the pointless tours but do rather feel irritated by the… well, the pointless tours.

The one thing I AM missing (and don't enjoy) is being able to chuck a ball about. Turning up to touch training as coach and not being able to delight in the simple pleasure of flipping the ball around – the basic joy of just interacting in a game situation - is doing my head in. Blimey O’crikey, I even miss the drills and repetitions!

Now that IS odd.
