Hours on the training field, minutes on the pitch, years in the doctors. Idiot.
This from the (English) BBC:
The Loveliest and Most Important Player in the History of History, Jonny Wilkinson, was England's top tackler in the first Test and unsurprisingly found himself in the wars, suffering facial laceration and bruising to his back.
But assistant coach Mike Ford, clutching a gold amulet containing a picture of Saint Wilkinson (claimed to ward off evil), said it was hard to keep the influential number 10 out of the firing line.
"It is difficult at times to say to him to stand to the side a little bit and let someone else take over, even when he can run and, indeed, kick goals on water," he said.
"We have tried that tactic, so what we are going to try to do is get players to move him, push him out of the way and say 'Jonny, my lovely darling boy, we are going to make this tackle, we are going to take the back row on, you are the chosen one and we will not let them take you, no matter how many times the cock tries to make big hits before dawn', and hopefully, not give him an option.
"But Jonny's enthusiasm, wisdom, healing touch, desire, love for all mankind and competitiveness puts him up there."
Prat.
