Australia 29 - 23 Wales

poor old cooper. should've run it back it, I thinkOh, bugger.

Byrne 6 Still not convinced he has international head
Alfie 6 Needs to play in the centre
Robinson 6 Not international
Parker 5 Was he playing?
Czekaj 7 Quite good
Hook 8 Pretty tidy and some lovely touches
Phillips 6 ”If we can get this boy playing rugby he could be world class.”
I. Thomas 7 Tidy enough
Rees 7 Erm, lineout?
A. Jones 6 OK, I suppose.
Cockbain 6 Not on long enough.
Sidoli 6 Useful enough but not enough grunt.
Charvis 7 Worked hard and aggressively.
G. Thomas 7 Tireless but is he that good to warrant that many caps?
J. Thomas 6 Now, he wasn’t playing, was he?

Cooper got it wrong at the end and perhaps cost us the game. But, really, the Aussies did what we couldn’t – create a try.

Ah, well. We didn’t have enough ball and the Aussies run really great lines and half-break most tackles. So, despite their many handling errors, they deserved it. They will be much more precise and therefore even more dangerous next week...

Come on the 'boks!

It was a lousy angle on TV, but that last pass looked a mile forward to me. Sour grapes? Yes!!
All in all Aus deserved it for the rugby they played. Apart from Charvis, our forwards didn't start playing until the last 20!
Wilbach says - hello, OS. quite agree with you on all counts. the 5th - 23rd officials in the Albany, Saturday morning, called two forward passes in the phases leading to the try but the ref couldn't have picked us up on his ear piece depsite the volume of shouts. Ah, well. The more I think on it, the more impressed I am with their running and our tackling. Since the Ella tour they have run superbly but, under Skoddy's influence they now run far, far fewer (to my eye) illegal obstructive lines. Charvo and (I hate to say it) Gavin Thomas' efforts were superb.

Tough one to lose, Wales. You fly all that way, stick to yourselves instead of going to Manly (great beach annd much better pubs than Terrigal), and still come out with a great effort. You played one of the worst Wallaby teams in memory, poorly selected and coached.
Next Saturday will be a little tougher because Larkham will play fly, Gregan will feed him and Gits will play I/C.
But Oz rugby is in terrible shape, and you'll have no trouble beating the Wallabies at Cardiff in the RWC no
matter what happens in Brisbane.

All good luck to you.

Wilbach says - cheers, blue! but really, they are so worrying with ball in hand. Unique, in fact. different to boks and blacks, frogs, jocks, micks or jonnies. and, we will need to get and keep at least 40% more ball to come close. but, hey, it might happen!

Can't say I agree with all of this! Lack of cool heads under extreme pressure cost us the game - we had 'em and then we threw it away. Took me a good 3 or 4 hours to calm down - in fact I'm still not happy! To raise our hopes and ultimately DISAPPOINT us right at the end - bugger is nowhere near strong enough! The awful thing is that there's no-one else to blame! No lousy reffing decisions, no cheating Aussie b*stards to deny a winning try - down to pure bad decision making under extreme pressure - Oh and an almost total lack of lineout - and organised defence close to the line and ... and...
I am so damned frustrated I could almost cry! Rees was a 5 at best, lineouts were CRUCIAL! Charvo played out of his skin - an 8 at least, You're right about Alfie - should be at centre, if only to bring him closer to the action and decision making, (mind you, he's not exactly known for his ice cool temperament is he?). Oooo I'm so CROSS!

Wilbach says - i stick by my scores in that I always feel the press over egg the pudding - we lose, someone tries hard and they end up with a 9 simply for being better than the rest of the bunch. nope, in Wilbach Meldrew's book the scores stand. except perhaps rees can drop a point5... it is tuesday and i am still disappointed, though.
